Wake up with Hilary Duff (vol. II)
I purchase a scanner. I suffer Windows issues.

Tonight marks the first entry wherein I describe the serious problems I'm having (all software) installing my new Epson 2480.
I was tempted at first to blame the whole thing on XP SP2. For like two seconds. Anyone who says they're having compatibility issues with their existing shit and SP2 is lying--they should probably just buy a Mac and start sucking their own dick instead of forcing barn animals to do it.
I the the problem has something to do with the manner in which I installed Windows in the first place. See, as most of us quickly learned, installing Win98 worked best when you copied all the .cabs from the CD into the Windows/Win/Winnt directory. The idea was that you'd have all the default drivers and extra Windows features (e.g. file/print sharing) on your comp when you needed them--you wouldn't have to dig the CD out when you got anew keyboard.
I did something similar with XP when I installed it. I got all the universal and product specific drivers I could find and dumped them in the various Windows drivers directories. Consequently, Windows finds my new Epson 2480 whenever I plug it in. This causes problems because, for reasons I'll never understand, Epson, like so many of their peers, insists that their proprietary software (which, quite naturally, sucks) be used for scanning.
The conflict is between the Epson software and Windows. It's as old as time, really. Fortunately, when Longhorn drops, this will all be a thing of the past. Bill and MS will make sure that third party hardware developers
aren't allowed to make their software act in direct opposition to Windows. Yes, no more shitty client software for anything--it'll be a beautiful future.
Until then, however, I'm stuck acting the part of the pacifist intermediary. I've got to try to restore the peace between Epson and MS--two angry giants who will wreck the world if I can't do something to keep their anger in check.
