Everyone I know has such a highly refined sense of the ridiculous that it sometimes borders on the absurd.
I think that's why so many of them are attracted to foreign cultures and non-native speakers of English. If you're interested in the subtleties of silliness, there are few better places to look for them than in the collected sayings of people who weren't born speaking English.
