Hold, Please

A short note about where demongin.org has gone and where it's going.

Wednesday, 2009-01-28 | demongin.org

It's been nearly 20 days since my last post and I would like briefly to justify my absence and explain what I've been working on during this unofficial hiatus.

  1. The new discography. Details are sketchy at this point, but I'm reworking my personal discography in order to make it a.) more browse-able, b.) easier to read and c.) more scalable.

Additionally, the new discography will be done in the style of the next iteration of demongin.org (which will be the seventh and is currently without an official codename); I will be using the python module cgi_app for the logic and templating with htmltmpl. I'm also going to migrate from MySQL to PostgreSQL.

Basically, if I might wax metaphorical for a moment, the next version of the website will be much closer to "pure" python than the current one and the database stuff will be much cleaner and less "ad hoc".

  2. Database restructuring. I'll leave out the gritty details on this one (or at least think about revealing them in a post on the AlmostEffortless blog where they would be more appropriate subject matter), but I spent a substantial amount of time over the last few days cleaning up my database access and configuration files as a response to and in preparation for a few upcoming projects.

  3. Dude Locker evac. The last day on the lease for my music studio is February 28th, 2009. Getting everything out of there and into an as-of-yet-unknown location is a huge time sink. And will grow huger as time progresses.

And that's what's happening right now. I'm also working a few secret projects in passive mode: more details as they become declassified.

I anticipate a return to regualar posting in a week or so.
