We Win, Gracie

A few bullet points on recent demongin.org action items (including the advent of "Outlawed Pipes"); an anecdotal account of scholarly arrogance.

I remember with great fondness those frequent occasions on which I would commiserate with my fellow undergrads when a particularly odious TA did or said something in either a.) poor taste or b.) utter stupidity. I was afraid that once I became one myself, my chances for hurling bricks at 'grad students' would be severely diminished. Not so.

As a kind of follow up to last nite's advectio in involutus, I thought I'd mention a funny conversation I happened to overhear this morning. A certain teaching assistant said '...and, well that's the reason that these guys are enduring--they don't write in the popular way. They leave a certain amount for scholarly reading.'

Keep working on that ivory tower guys--see how high you can get.

In other news, I've got some house-keeping announcements to make:

  1. [UPDATE 2009-10-27: the content described below no longer exists on this website.] If you look below this post, you'll notice that the third picture ('NIGHTRAIDER!') is now an active link. It corresponds with the text below that reads 'Outlawed Pipes.' Outlawed Pipes is a new element of DemonGin.org. The idea is that since I simply cannot abide increasingly Draconian intellectual property laws and the hypocrisy/greed that inspires their proprietors to make attempt after attempt to defile one of the few things I hold sacrosanct--the internet as a publishing medium--I'm going to find whatever material I can that has caused its creators to receive a 'cease/desist' order and host it here. Look ma--I'm political and stuff.
  2. The only content available now in 'Outlawed Pipes' is the world-famous G.I. Joe PSA parodies that are currently ('but for how long?') available on EBaumsworld.com. I've got a few up now, and I've still got to sort through the rest. I'll post some kind of announcement when I get things sorted out on my end. Oh, and don't tell Hasbro--I hear they're in the business of threatening their fans who are not making a profit from harmless derivative works with serious legal injunctions.
  3. In the future, if you see something about to be made unavailable by its host, by all means, let me know so that I might host it here--I've got space enough, I reckon.
I've been reading Aristotle's Rhetorica in my spare time. You may have noticed in my recent writings that I've been discussing rhetoric lately.

I've been trying to put handles on something that I want to write about the 'prepositions of Rhetoric,' that is to say that I'd like to address 'Complete Proofs, Probabilities and Signs' as such.

It's once again worth noting that I can't seem to shake the fetters of classical philosophy and philology.
