The Proscriptions are a Chicago, Illinois duo whose trademark blend of mile-a-minute raps, throat-shredding screams and blistering electronica has inspired their fans to insist that The Proscriptions belong in a genre by themselves. Whether you agree with this or not, the now infamous coinage appears to have stuck and one can hardly mention The Proscriptions without also mentioning "sludgecore.'

The Proscriptions released their first full-length album (Fenix Down) in 2004. Following a short hiatus, Brent and O'Connell released their second full-length album (Fission Mailed) in 2005. Following a small east coast tour in late 2005 and several critically acclaimed and notoriously well-attended dates in the Windy City, The Proscriptions were shot down over Algeria; dozens of volunteers perished combing the desert for the crash site, but no crash site was ever found.
