What makes a side project great--and, contrary to popular misconception, side projects actually can be really, really great--is when your favorite musicians find themselves playing their secondary or tertiary instruments in unfamiliar, uncomfortable and therefore unsafe circumstances. This blandly produced, utterly unremarkable collection of genre recapitulations finds Greenday clumsily integrating the familiar hooks of classic pop songs (from the Zombies to Tin Lizzie) into the same well-established song that they've been recapitulating since the 90's. This album could potentially befun for music nerds who can amuse themselves during the first listen by playing "guess what classic jam the hook in this one comes from!", but there is no reason to listen to this collection twice.
