This B action film, confusingly marketed as some kind of media-event-cum-cultural-touchstone, is actually nothing more than a series of must-see virtuoso monologues delivered by the late Heath Ledger that are interrupted frequently and for excruciating lengths by Nolan's interminable tin-eared Batman fan-fiction. If it's better or worse than Nolan's first, abortive attempt to distinguish himself from the rest of the never-was, straight-to-DVD cash-in attempts doomed to huddle forever in Tim Burton's lengthy shadow, it is better or worse only by virtue of its impossible length.
